    750 GeV Resonance in the Gauged U(1)U(1)'-Extended MSSM

    Recently the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the LHC announced their observation of a potential 750 GeV di-photon resonance, after analyzing the s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV LHC data. This observation has significant implications for low-energy supersymmetry. Beyond the MSSM and the NMSSM, we study the MSSM-extensions with an extra U(1)U(1)' gauge symmetry. The anomaly cancellation and the spontaneous breaking of the non-decoupled U(1)U(1)' generically require introducing vector-like supermultiplets (both colored and color-neutral ones) and singlet supermultiplets, respectively. We illustrate that the potential 750 GeV resonance (YY) can be accommodated in various mechanisms, as a singlet-like scalar or pseudoscalar. Three benchmark scenarios are presented: (1) vector-like quarks (VLQ) mediated ppYγγpp \to Y \to \gamma \gamma; (2) scalar VLQ mediated ppYγγpp \to Y \to \gamma \gamma; (3) heavy scalar (pseudo-scalar) H/AH/A associated production ppH/AYH/hpp \to H^*/A^* \to Y H/h. Additionally, we notice that the ZZ'-mediated vector boson fusion production and ZZ'-associated production ppYqqpp \to Y qq', if yielding a signal rate of the observed level, might have been excluded by the searches for ZZ' via Drell-Yan process at the LHC.Comment: v3, figure update with corresponding modification in discussion, version accepted by PL

    Protective roles of ketamine and xylazine against lightinduced retinal degeneration in rats

    Purpose: To study the protective effects of ketamine and xylazine against light exposure-induced retinal degeneration (RD) in rats. Methods: Sprague Dawley rats were divided into three groups viz: light damage before anesthesia (LAE), light damage only (LDO), and control (CON) group which was kept in the dark for 12 - 18 h to habituate before light exposure. LDO group was exposed to light before anesthesia, while LAE group was maintained under anesthesia with ketamine and xylazine. The groups were kept for 120 min in darkness after anesthesia prior to light exposure and they were awakened prior to light damage. Functional assessment was carried out using electroretinography while morphological analysis was carried out using histology and immunochemistry techniques. Results: Ketamine-xylazine combination preserved the function of the retina and protected against light-induced RD based on retinal imaging studies and immunochemistry analysis. Xylazine and ketamine anesthesia provided protection against light-induced retinal damage, and thus reduced photoreceptor cell death. Conclusion: These results indicate that xylazine and ketamine anesthesia offer protection against lightinduced damage and photoreceptor cell death in rats, and therefore, can potentially be developed for use in humans

    A Compositional Analysis of Unbalanced Usages of Multiple Left-turn Lanes

    Lane usage measures distribution of a specific traffic movement across multiple available lanes in a given time. Unbalanced lane usages decrease the capacity of subject segment. This paper took multiple left-turn lanes at signalized intersections as case study, and explored the influences of some factors on the lane usage balance. Lane usages were calculated from field collected lane volumes and the constant-sum constraint among them was explicitly considered in the statistical analysis. Classical and compositional analysis of variance was respectively conducted to identify significant influential factors. By comparing the results of compositional analysis and those of the classical one, the former ones have better interpretability. It was found that left-turn lane usages could be affected by parameter variance of geometric design or traffic control, such as length of turning curve, length of upstream segment, length of signal phase or cycle. These factors could make the lane usages achieve relative balance at different factor levels.</p

    Isolation of nematicidal constituents from essential oil of Kaempferia galanga L rhizome and their activity against Heterodera avenae Wollenweber

    Purpose: To explore the nematicidal activities of the essential oil of Kaempferia galanga rhizomes and its isolated constituents against Heterodera avenae.Methods: Essential oil of K. galanga rhizomes was obtained by hydrodistillation and characterized by gas chromatography/mass spectrometric (GC/MS) analysis using HP-5MS column. Evaluation of nematicidal toxicity was performed against juveniles (J2) of H. avenae. The bioactive constituent compounds were isolated and identified from the oil based on bioactivity-directed fractionation.Results: Forty-one components were identified and the main components of the essential oil of K. galanga are as follows: ethyl-ρ-methoxy cinnamate (34.79 %), ethyl cinnamate (20.72%), 1,8-cineole (8.96 %), trans-cinnamaldehyde (7.03%) and borneol (5.64 %). The essential oil exhibited nematicidal activity against the cereal cyst nematode with an LC50 value of 91.78 μg/mL. Ethyl cinnamate, ethyl ρ-methoxy cinnamate and trans-cinnamaldehyde (median lethal concentration LC50 = 100.60 μg/ml, 83.04 μg/mL and 94.75 μg/mL, respectively) exhibited stronger nematicidal toxicity than borneol (LC50 = 734.89 μg/mL) and 1,8-cineole (LC50 = 921.21 μg/mL) against the cereal cyst nematode.Conclusion: The results indicate that the essential oil of K. galanga and its isolated constituents have a potential for development into natural nematicides for the control of cereal cyst nematodes.Keywords: Kaempferia galanga, Heterodera avenae, Nematicidal activity, Cereal cyst nematodes, Ethyl cinnamate, Ethyl ρ-methoxy cinnamate, Trans-cinnamaldehyd

    In the title complex, [Co(C20H22N4O)2](C6H2N3O7)2·2C3H7NO, the CoII ion is coordinated by two sets of two N atoms and an O atom from two independent tridendate ligands in a distorted octa­hedral coordination environment. There are significant differences between chemically equivalent coordination bond lengths. The crystal structure is stabilized by weak inter­molecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and weak π–π stacking inter­actions [centroid–centroid distance 3.495 (1) Å]. In one of the anions one nitro group is rotationally disordered about the C—N bond with refined occupancies of 0.524 (8) and 0.476 (8)
